Kord announced today that it had signed a contract with EOS Defence Systems Pty Ltd for the next phase of the C4 EDGE (Evolutionary Digital Ground Environment) Program.
EOS was awarded $31.4m contract in December 2020 to develop a demonstration system available by the end of this year.
The C4 EDGE Program, which comprises some 18 Australian SMEs, seeks to deliver a sovereign tactical command, control, computing and communications system (C4) for a battlegroup and below. Kord’s unique push-button control technology will be used to enable the soldier to operate this new communications technology while ‘head up, eyes on target, hands on weapon’.
Peter Moran, CEO of Kord Defence said that “it was a small, but important contribution to the overall effort which will enable dismounted soldiers to access their communications devices faster, easier and safer.” The demonstration will involve the development of a tactical communications prototype, which included waveform, cryptography, satellite-enabled friendly-force tracking, radio and hardware manufacture.
The Government’s 2020 Defence Strategic Update stipulates an investment pipeline for battlefield communications and command systems of A$5 billion and A$7.5 billion over the next 20 years.
